Our Ranking Methodology

Our rankings are determined using ratings from our formula. Our formula utilizes two statistics from each school: graduation rate and yearly tuition rate. The majority of the institutions included in this article are public schools with varying in-state and non-resident tuition rates. We decided to put only the in-state tuition rate into the formula. The formula works by taking the tuition rate and adding a multiplier that is equal to the percentage of students who matriculated but did not graduate. Here’s an example of how this works: ABC Community College has a yearly tuition rate of $5,000 and a graduation rate of 50%. Its rating would be 7,500 (5,000 x 150%). Lower ratings are desirable when using this formula.
