We have prepared a short list of some of some dental hygiene programs in Texas programs. This list is meant to provide you some basic information and a general overview of the listed programs. 1. University of Texas School of Dentistry
Location: Houston
Tuition: $32,372
Program Length: 4 years (undergraduate)
Based in Houston, the University of Texas School of Dentistry Dental Hygiene Program is the only university in the greater Houston area offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in dental hygiene. Admission to the Dental Hygiene programs requires a separate application. First, you must be admitted to the University of Texas and complete the 62 prerequisite hours. After that, you can apply for admission into the Dental Hygiene program. Housing is available through a partnership with nearby Rice University. Students also can apply to the graduate Dental Hygiene program through the UT School of Dentistry. 2. Texas A&M University
Location: Dallas

Program Length: 4 years (undergraduate)
As part of the Texas A&M School of Dentistry, this undergraduate program in Dental Hygiene can prepare you for a fulfilling career in the dental field. Since 1955, Texas A&M has been training quality dental hygienists and you can be a part of their proud traditions. Just like the program at the University of Texas, Texas A&M requires you to apply to the program separately. This means earning good grades during your first two years while taking prerequisite courses. The program is very competitive — applicants must also perform well on an interview with the School of Dental Hygiene before receiving an offer of admission. Applicants should have, at minimum, have shadowed a dentist or a dental hygienist for 16 hours. Financial aid, scholarships, and grants are available. After graduating from the program at Texas A&M, you will feel confident heading out into the dental profession. 3. Texas Woman’s University
Location: Denton

Program Length: 4 years (undergraduate)
Begin your journey to becoming a dental hygienist by studying Dental Hygiene at Texas Woman’s University in Denton. The program at Texas Woman’s University combines all the academic rigor and world-class professionalization of a large university with all the benefits of a smaller school, including a small student-to-teacher ratio. By earning your BS in Dental Hygiene (BSDH), you can be prepared to earn a job following graduation. Like other programs, you have to complete two years of courses at TWU before applying to the Dental Hygiene Program. At TWU, that means performing well in 57 credit hours. Some of the classes you need to take before applying to the DH program include Anatomy I, Nutrition, Microbiology, and Statistics. TWU also has its own clinic that you will work in as part of your education. This will provide you with valuable hands-on experience that will serve you well in the dental profession. 4. Amarillo College

Program Length: 2 years (AAS)
Unlike the other programs listed here, Amarillo College offers a two years AAS program in Dental Hygiene. The composition of this program is similar to others covered here, but with slight variations. You need to complete 30 credit hours of prerequisites before beginning the 38 credit hours of Dental Hygiene courses. Some of the courses that will make up your curriculum at Amarillo College include Dental Materials, Dental Hygiene Care I and II, Periodontology, and many more. Following graduation, you will have to pass the national licensure examination to practice as a Dental Hygienist, but Amarillo College will give you all the training necessary to succeed in the classroom and out of it. 5. Del Mar College
Location: Corpus Christi

Program Length: 2 years
Earn your Associate in Applied Science in Dental Hygiene from Del Mar College and begin your professional journey. Like every other school listed here, you have to apply to the Dental Hygiene program separately. At Del Mar, you have to have, at minimum, a 2.5 GPA. Positions in the program are limited: only 24 people are accepted into the Dental Hygiene program every year. Following your acceptance, you will begin your curriculum. As a graduate of Del Mar College, you will have studied a rigorous curriculum and had access to dozens of veteran dental professionals for career advice and help. Del Mar offers a high-quality education that will not break the bank.
