Fort Hays State University
In 1902, 57 students paid a $5 fee to take FHSU’s first summer courses at the Fort Hays Infirmary that had been abandoned in 1889. In 1904 a large renovation began as the small city of Hays made room for the school to move closer to the city. It went through several names until it finally became Fort Hays State University in 1977. Now FHSU has grown into a regional comprehensive university with over 14,000 on-campus and online students.
